Steven C. Laird
Steve earned his undergraduate degree in Business from Texas Tech University before obtaining his Master of Business Administration degree from Texas Christian University. He went on to earn his law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1980, and later completed his Master of Laws degree in trial advocacy at Temple University School of Law.
Steve is among a distinguished and select number of lawyers in Texas who are board certified in three specific areas of practice, signifying high levels of education and experience in these fields. He is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. As noted above, he also has earned national certification in Civil Trial Law from The National Board of Trial Advocacy. In addition, Steve is one of the rare lawyers nationally – and one of only a handful in the state of Texas – to earn the degree of Master of Laws in trial advocacy from Temple University, which is consistently ranked as the nation’s leading trial advocacy program.
Steve is often recognized by his peers and by outside organizations for excellence in the practice of law, and that recognition began early in his career. The Texas Young Lawyers Association selected Steve as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Texas in 1988 from among the more than 20,000 lawyers under 35 years of age practicing at that time. He was also selected as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Tarrant County by the Tarrant County Young Lawyers Association, that same year. Steve has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward White, Inc.), from 2013 through 2018 based on his work for plaintiffs in significant personal injury cases..
He has been voted as one of the top 100 “Texas Super Lawyers” by Thomson Reuters and featured in Texas Monthly magazine from 2003-2013, 2015-2017, and named as a “Texas Super Lawyer” from 2003 – 2016. There are 80,000 licensed attorneys in the state of Texas, so being named as one of the Top 100 is truly an honor. Steve has been selected an “Attorney of Influence” by his peers, from 2003-2005, as published in the Fort Worth Business Press and recognized by the legal community as Top Personal Injury Attorney in Tarrant County in a survey conducted by Fort Worth, Texas Magazine for eleven consecutive years, starting in 2005. Steve is the past President and a charter member of the Eldon Mahon Chapter of the Fort Worth Inn of Court. He served as President of the Fort Worth Chapter and the State of Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and as President of the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association. He has also served as a Director of the Tarrant County Bar Association.
Steve has been honored as a recipient of the annual “Professionalism Award” presented by the College of the State Bar of Texas. He has also been awarded the Tarrant County Bar Association “Professional Award,” being the only member to receive both awards. Steve has been a member of the State Bar of Texas Referral Fee Task Force Committee and has chaired the State Bar of Texas Advertising Review Committee. He has also served on the State Bar of Texas Professional Ethics Committee and Pattern Jury Charge Committee. Steve has been a Director of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association for many years and has chaired numerous committees in that organization.
At the national level, Steve is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics for legal and business conferences. A recipient of the U.S. Army’s Commendation Medal, Steve is married and has three children.
