In this story, Mr. Laird discusses one of his trucking cases where a 23-year-old second lieutenant in the U.S. Army was killed in a big rig wreck. During the wrongful death trial that resulted in a multimillion-dollar verdict for the young man's family, Mr. Laird showed jurors how the tractor trailer's driver caused the fatal crash by using a toothpick and electrical tape to fix a hole in the truck's brake lines.
