Experienced Lawyers for Serious Cases
FORT WORTH, Texas - Attorneys from the of The Law Offices of Steven C. Laird, P.C., are asking shoppers to be extra careful this holiday season in light of recent recalls of dangerous toys and other products. The United States imports many consumer products, with about 43 percent of them coming from China.
In 2010, the Consumer Product Safety Commission completed 428 cooperative recalls involving millions of consumer product units that either violated mandatory standards or were defective and presented a substantial risk of injury to the public. In 2008, more than 35 million people in the United States sought medical attention for injuries related to consumer products.
"It's no wonder that consumers are concerned for their safety and the safety of their loved ones," says Wade A. Barrow, attorney in the Fort Worth personal injury law firm of Law Offices of Steven C. Laird, P.C. "Toys contaminated with lead paint, foods laced with E. coli bacteria and children's cold medicine with improper dosage instructions just heighten awareness of how some manufacturers and importers don't seem to care about the negative impact of their products."
In a recent survey of 1,000 American adults, researchers with information services provider Thomson West found that 61 percent of Americans are worried or very worried about product safety; 55 percent say they are more worried today about product safety than they were a year ago; and 73 percent say they have owned a recalled product.
"Unfortunately it's up to the consumer to be more mindful than ever of news reports on product recalls, recognize when a product they're using may have a defect and be willing to report problems quickly.", says Barrow.
